Why study it:

Jagiellonian University in Kraków (UJ) runs International Security and Development (ISAD) at the Centre for International Studies and Development, part of the Faculty of International and Political Studies, as a two-year, four-semester full-time Master's programme taught in English, with a general academic profile. It is for graduates who want to understand and manage complex problems of global security and development in an international setting.

Programme: security and development in one programme

ISAD encourages creative thinking about complex problems of global security and development. You gain analytical tools, language skills and intercultural understanding, together with the professional skills needed to manage security and development in an international environment. Classes are taught both by international experts and by UJ lecturers, and the discipline behind the programme is political science and public administration.

Specialisation: two academic tracks

Specialisations

  • Track oneinternational security and crisis management
  • Track twodevelopment and security

Placements: placements and expert workshops

Practice is built into the programme: ISAD includes professional placements as well as workshops led by experts in the field.

Languages: English plus a second language

All academic courses are taught in English, which prepares you to work in an international environment and at different levels of management. On top of that, every student learns a second foreign language of their choice. Many of the Faculty's English-taught programmes run under agreements with universities abroad, so you study in a nationally and culturally diverse environment.

After graduation: from ministries to international organisations

Graduates are prepared to work, in Poland or in their home countries, in:

  • central and local government administration
  • state security agencies and bodies
  • economic and social organisations
  • international institutions and organisations dealing with security and development aid

Did you know? ISAD students can join The ISAD Panopticon, a student-run magazine that explains international security, development and related fields in an accessible way.
