Why study it:

At Jagiellonian University in Kraków (UJ), European Studies is also a two-year (four-semester), full-time Master's programme taught in English at the Institute of European Studies, part of the Faculty of International and Political Studies. It suits graduates who want to deepen their specialist knowledge of the European Union and of Europe's place in the world and to prepare for expert work.

Programme: specialist knowledge of the EU

At Master's level the focus is on specialist, in-depth knowledge of:

  • the institutional architecture of the European Union and its policies
  • the EU's relations with other regions and Europe's role in the world
  • European integration and Central and Eastern Europe
  • political, social and cultural processes across the continent, studied through critical analysis and interpretation

On some Master's tracks you can earn a double degree together with a partner university abroad. You can also go on exchanges within the Institute's wide network of partner universities and join summer schools, workshops and internships organised by international consortia. Invited experts co-teach classes and give open lectures, and debates, simulations and your own research projects link academic knowledge with practice.

After graduation: expert work in Europe and beyond

Master's graduates are prepared to work in international institutions, especially those dealing with European integration, as well as in think tanks and expert centres. They can also find jobs in state and local administration, education, the media, non-governmental organisations and cultural institutions, both in Poland and in their home countries, and the private sector values their skills too. If you are interested in research, the next step can be a doctoral school, for example the Doctoral School in the Social Sciences.
