Why study it:

International Relations at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin (UMCS) is a two-year, full-time Master's programme with a general academic profile, taught in English at the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism and open to both Polish and international students. It is for graduates who want to analyse and explain a fast-changing world – relations between states, international organisations and non-state actors, and the processes shaping the international environment.

Programme: a multi-faceted, multi-level view of change

The programme treats international relations as cross-border activities and processes that are political, economic, social, cultural, military and ecological at once. They are studied at several levels – global, regional and national – with a particular focus on the phenomenon of change. Alongside the core curriculum you choose from a range of optional subjects, and classes are also taught by foreign lecturers and visiting professors from around the world.

Specialisation: three specialisations

You can choose one of the specialisations:

  • Economic Diplomacy
  • International Institutions
  • International Place Branding

Placements: internships and study trips

The programme offers domestic and foreign apprenticeships and internships, as well as study trips to state institutions dealing with foreign policy and to international organisations. You also meet people from politics, diplomacy, the media and culture.

Outside class you can join scientific clubs and Oxford-style debates, take trainings and courses run by the UMCS Competence Development Office, and develop your own ideas in the Academic Incubator of Entrepreneurship.

Exchanges: study at a partner university

Through the Erasmus programme you can study at one of the partner universities abroad, adding international experience to a degree that is already taught entirely in English.

As of the 2026/27 admissions, based on the programme pages at irk.umcs.pl.
