Why study it:

Mining Engineering at AGH University of Krakow is a four-semester second-cycle programme, with all four semesters held at AGH in Krakow. It is meant for graduates of geology, mining engineering, mineral processing, environmental or mechanical engineering, metallurgy or a related field who want specialist knowledge of developing and extracting mineral deposits and processing raw materials.

Programme: underground, borehole and opencast mining

Over four semesters of lectures, auditorium, project and laboratory classes you work on:

  • underground, borehole and opencast mining methods
  • modern techniques and technologies of raw material processing
  • classifying, evaluating and selecting the optimal method of accessing, cutting and exploiting solid mineral deposits
  • natural and technical hazards and the auxiliary processes that go with extraction
  • key elements of mining documentation, technical reports and simple scientific studies
  • engineering, organisational and managerial decision-making, alongside economic and legal issues

Placements: technological trips to mines and institutes

Classes are complemented by numerous technological trips to mining plants, mining companies and research institutes – part of how the programme builds up-to-date, practical knowledge of open-pit and underground extraction.

After graduation: mines, tunnels, design offices or a PhD

Graduates find work in Polish and foreign mining companies, firms building underground structures such as tunnels, companies providing services for mining, design offices, mine rescue stations, geological and geotechnical construction companies and mining supervision authorities. Another path leads to offices designing raw material processing plants, technological systems and devices.

You are also prepared to continue at doctoral level.
