Metalcasting Engineering (CAST) for the Advanced Manufacturing Industry is a Master's programme at AGH University of Krakow, run by the Faculty of Foundry Engineering. It is for engineers who want to design and run the production of cast components in metallurgical and foundry plants of any size.
You deepen your knowledge of the theory of metallurgical and foundry processes, alloys with special properties, casting materials and materials science, and the technology of non-ferrous metals, cast steel and cast iron melting and casting. The programme also covers modern and ecological moulding and core sands, thermal technology and the utilisation of technological waste. As a graduate, you can design and implement the manufacturing of cast components, select metal alloys or composites for a given part, and choose heat treatment, chemical treatment, corrosion protection and finishing processes.
The main focus is on foundry technologies for advanced manufacturing, and you learn to apply special methods of manufacturing components for the automotive industry and other mass production industries.
The digital and testing side of the programme includes:
Graduates can work as production process engineers, engineer-technologists, parts and subassembly designers, supervision and quality engineers, or computer-aided manufacturing specialists – and they are prepared to optimise production and manage teams in industrial plants.
Typical employers include foundry and automotive production plants, design offices, quality inspection and certification units, research laboratories and scientific units; some graduates run their own business.
